Player Profile October 2001
- Mark "Weeksy" Weeks. |

Well this month we
preview one of the Club's characters,
none other than Mr Happy himself, Mark
Weeks. I think its fair to say that
nothing bothers this guy, who wanders
around with a permanent grin on his face,
planning his next night out on the beer. Weeksy joined the
Club in 1991 when he attended the first
Lindow Junior night in June of that year.
A real stern faced little chap in those
days, he was slightly bigger than most of
his age group, and he used to tear in
bowling bouncers at any hapless fella in
pads, growling and glaring along the way.
He progressed nicely through the Junior
teams showing promise until being snared
by the University life, and it obviously
had an impression on him as he returned
the gregarious chap we know today. With a
degree in heaven knows what behind him,
he got a job working in some major multi-national
organisation and returned to Lindow to
pursue his cricket career. Now we get to
the interesting bits.
As a
batsman of some talent, Weeksy has one of
the best techniques in the Club, with a
solid defence and a good array of shots.
When he gets going he is a top player to
watch, but unfortunately he has one major
drawback. He's got the attention span of
an ant. Consequently, every sixth ball he
gets bored and tries to smash it, and
yes, you guessed it gets himself out. Oh
Lord!

In 1999 Weeksy
decided to take on the role of
Second XI Captain, and lead a
young an inexperienced team from
the front. Unfortunately things
did not go according to plan in
the first half of the season as
the team struggled. Then he got
in break in the form of now First
XI bat, Johnny Lawton who smashed
the team to a couple of victories.
Now most skippers would take care
of their best match winners, but
not our Weeksy who promptly set
off the next week leaving John
behind. Throughout most of that
season the absent minded skip'
left several things behind, like
his kit at various grounds,
scoebooks and brand new cricket
balls. He's all right now though
as he has purchased a personal
organiser. Until he leaves it
somewhere of course. You may not
know it but our Weeksy is
actually a brilliant Hockey
goalkeeper, having represented
England at various levels. Mind,
if you've ever seen him keep
wicket you will be able to tell.
The way he spreadeagles himself
all over the shop in a vain
attempt to stop the one down the
legside kind of gives it away.
Never mind, all is forgotten in
the Bar after when Weeksy sets
off on another Saturday night
mission with the boys, with that
big smile on full view.
So
there you have it. Mark Weeks,
