Player Profile January 2001 - Tony "Bar-B" Skewes

Skewsy first joined Lindow way back in 1983 and is now one of the Club's Senior Pro's. He started out primarily as an "Athertonesque" opening bat, and to date has amassed over 7,500 runs for the Club. Not renowned as the most free scoring batsman, he has none the less a strong array of shots that allow him to play all round the wicket.

His highest score remains 96 not out against the then Champions, Prestbury, in the 1999 season. Asked if he felt this was his best innings for the Club Skewsy replied; "Yes, that was a very enjoyable knock, but it ultimately counted for nothing as we didn't win. My best innings was at Sandbach in 1990 on a dreadful track. The ball was doing all sorts, but I managed to score 80 out of 160 odd for nine, and we won by 105 runs".

To date Skewsy has scored 45 fifties in his career, and topped the 2nd XI League batting averages in 2000 with an average of 58.00. He has also taken over 100 catches in nearly 350 League appearances.

In the Bowling department, Skewsy didn't really start until the late 80's, but has progressed to such an extent that he is now a genuine All Rounder. To date he has taken over 260 wickets, with a best of 7 - 22 at Alvanley in 1989. He even managed to top the First XI averages in 1991. Last season was probably his best with 40 League wickets, including a match ending hat trick against Offerton. Skewsy has also done his fair share of Captaincy, having lead the One's for a season in 1991, and the Two's on five occasions.

Not shy of having a few beers post match, Skewsy can normally be found inthe Bar at the Club, mulling over the day's play with his team mates. His Veteran Colleagues will no doubt vouch for his healthy thirst, and regalle you with many tales down the years, with Offerton in 1999 top of the list, when Skewsy arrived straight from a Old mates reunion in Bolton, to play at Offerton while still well oiled from the recently finished party. Marvellous entertainment.

So there you have it. January's Player Profile. Old soak Skewsy.
